Trump Announces ‘Operation Shut Up,’ Says Goal Is a Media Landscape That’s “100% Trump-Friendly by Christmas”
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Declaring that “criticism is bad for national morale,” President Trump on Thursday unveiled Operation Shut Up, a sweeping initiative aimed at transforming America’s press into a nonstop celebration of Trump by December 25.
“People keep saying I’m stifling free speech,” Trump said. “That’s fake. I love free speech—as long as it’s about how great I am.” He added that, under the new program, “anyone still running their mouth in a negative way after Christmas will be put on the Naughty List, which is a very serious list.”
According to White House aides, Operation Shut Up will combine FCC threats, “patriotism audits,” and a new hotline where citizens can report “dangerous sarcasm.” Broadcasters judged insufficiently enthusiastic may be ordered to air 24-hour highlight reels of Trump “winning” until their attitudes improve.
Officials described the plan as “an early holiday gift for Americans tired of jokes, questions, and reality.” FCC Chairman Brendan Carr boasted, “This will be the most transparent censorship in U.S. history—you’ll see it happening in real time.”
Critics warned the effort amounts to an open assault on the First Amendment. Trump, asked about that concern, shrugged: “The First Amendment loves me. Everybody loves me. And by Christmas, every show will too.”
