Evangelical Assassin’s Friends Say He Was ‘Moral Man’ Who Just Hated Living People

MINNEAPOLIS — In the aftermath of the double shooting that left Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman dead and Senator John Hoffman wounded, friends of suspect Vance Boelter are lining up to assure the public that, despite the political assassination, he was “basically a good guy.”

“Vance was one of the most moral people I knew,” said neighbor and fellow congregant Dale K., sipping sweet tea under a giant wooden cross. “Sure, he gunned down two pro-choice Democrats, but that was out of love. You know—tough love. The Bible’s full of that.”

Another friend described Boelter as “deeply pro-life in a way that was really inspiring—if you ignore the recent murders.”

“He hated sin, he hated corruption, and he definitely hated women who had opinions about their bodies,” said high school acquaintance Susan M., adding, “but he loved fetuses. He even knitted tiny sweaters for them—if only they could wear them.”

Friends noted Boelter often spoke passionately about the sanctity of life, except in cases where the life had already been born, had voted for Biden, or had ever tweeted anything pro-choice.

When asked whether Boelter’s devout Christianity conflicted with the killings, longtime buddy Paul Schroeder shook his head. “Not at all. He believed in protecting life… just not all kinds of life.”
