Randy Fine Demands DOJ Investigation of Mamdani’s Path to Citizenship, “And Maybe His Spotify Playlists Too”
NEW YORK — Florida Republican Randy Fine escalated his calls this week for the DOJ to investigate how New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani became a U.S. citizen—suggesting federal agents also “check what he’s been listening to lately, just to be thorough.”
Fine insists the probe is necessary to “root out the enemy within,” a phrase he’s used to describe citizens who believe in affordable rent, labor rights, or healthcare.
“I just think we need to take a hard look at how these folks became citizens,” Fine said, before adding, “and if there’s any violation of the rules, or any socialist music playlists, we need to denaturalize and deport.”
The request, backed by Tennessee Republican Andy Ogles, accuses Mamdani of hiding ties to “communism,” which in GOP terms now means anyone who’s ever thought about taxing the rich. Mamdani, a dual U.S.-Ugandan citizen and Democratic Socialist, won his primary in June by a landslide—a victory Fine described as “deeply un-American.”
Critics have compared the GOP’s crusade to McCarthyism, though Fine rejected the label, noting that “back then, we only ruined people’s careers—now we deport them.”
