Sliwa Compares Himself to Braveheart, Says He’ll “Die on His Sword” To Stop Mamdani From Making Rent Affordable

NEW YORK — Declaring himself “the last line of defense between freedom and rent control,” Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa told Fox News this week that he’s prepared to “die on his sword” to stop Zohran Mamdani’s alleged “plot” to make New York livable again.

“I won’t let this city fall,” Sliwa said, wearing his trademark red beret in front of a Midtown Dunkin’ Donuts. “If Mamdani wins, you can kiss New York goodbye. Once the rent falls, so does freedom…”

A Fox News segment titled Battle for the Boroughs depicted Sliwa as a lone patriot resisting “the socialist invasion,” featuring Sliwa’s speeches intercut with tanks, parades, and stock footage of the USSR.

Mamdani, meanwhile, has continued to suggest modest public reforms that Fox commentators insist are “step one of the Soviet playbook.” When asked for comment, Mamdani’s response was simple: “I just want people to be able to afford to live here.”

At press time, Sliwa’s campaign confirmed he would not literally “die on his sword” to stop Mamdani, but “may dramatically pose with one if poll numbers don’t improve.”
