Trump Admin Applauds New Exchange Program: Study Here, Get Deported, Study the Consequences Abroad

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Calling it “the most innovative student exchange program in history,” President Donald Trump’s administration praised its own mass deportation of international students earlier this spring—insisting it was “actually a learning opportunity.”

Under the new Trump policy, foreign students were invited to study in the United States just long enough to uproot their lives, amass crippling debt, and form emotional ties—before being abruptly expelled and forced to study the consequences of trusting America from their home countries.

“Other nations just give you a degree,” Trump boasted on Truth Social. “We give you life experience—very valuable, very educational. You’ll learn more from being deported than you’ll ever learn from biology, or whatever boring science stuff you people do.”

While the administration later attempted to walk back the deportations, reinstating student records weeks later, it stopped short of restoring their visas or repairing the financial chaos many now face abroad. ICE officials defended the move, arguing it “builds character” and “keeps foreign students humble.”

Critics warned the new policy will drive students to friendlier nations like Canada or New Zealand, but Trump dismissed the concern. “Let them go,” he said. “We only want the best students—the ones willing to beg to come back.”
