Trump Celebrates 2 Trade Deals in 90 Days, With “88 Still in Progress”
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Marking what the White House called a “strategic milestone,” President Trump held a brief ceremony Wednesday to celebrate two finalized trade deals out of the 90 he promised would be completed by now.
“Two deals in 90 days—that’s one deal every 45 days. That’s what I call rapid-fire success,” Trump declared, flanked by flags and a giant banner that read MISSION IN PROGRESS.
The administration originally pledged “90 deals in 90 days” following Trump’s April 2 rollout of sweeping tariffs on what he called “Liberation Day.” Since then, the U.S. has inked agreements with the United Kingdom and Vietnam—two nations that were “already mostly on board,” according to a former trade official.
When asked about the timeline, Trump said that “90 days was more of a guideline,” and that “honestly, it could take years to finish all 90. Some countries are being very rude.”
Karoline Leavitt clarified that each deal is “progressing beautifully” and that the administration will “not be rushed by artificial concepts like time, logistics, or economic stability.”
At press time, Trump said a third deal was “coming any minute now” but noted “these things take time—we’re trying to strike a deal with Wakanda but nobody’s picking up the phone.”
