Zelenskyy Schedules Another Trump Meeting, Hopes This One Magically Ends War Trump Promised to Stop on ‘Day One’
KYIV — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will once again meet with President Donald Trump on Sunday to discuss ending the Russia–Ukraine war, continuing a diplomatic ritual that has so far produced little beyond vague assurances and the steady bombing of Ukraine.
According to Zelenskyy, the meeting will focus on security guarantees, long-term prosperity, and a reconstruction effort estimated to cost between $700 and $800 billion—numbers officials admitted were difficult to reconcile with an administration that has spent much of the year treating Ukraine as an optional inconvenience.
The announcement came just days after Russia launched nearly 500 drones and dozens of missiles at Kyiv, knocking out heat and power to large portions of the city. Trump, meanwhile, reiterated that peace was “very close,” while also reminding reporters that “Zelenskyy doesn’t have anything until I approve it.”
Zelenskyy outlined a shared U.S.–Ukraine vision, complete with development funds, investment platforms, and economic roadmaps—plans observers note may be optimistic given that Russia continues to communicate primarily through explosives.
Diplomatic experts say the problem is not a lack of meetings, plans, or frameworks, but a lack of urgency from the world’s most powerful countries—particularly those capable of pressuring Russia to stop.
Still, Zelenskyy expressed cautious hope that this meeting might finally break the cycle, citing no specific evidence beyond the fact that it’s been scheduled once again.
